From the green hills to the doomsday zone, you’ll be experiencing everything with speed from the blue legend. Sonic Craft is a map and texture pack within one, dedicated to Sonic the Hedgehog and is made in celebration of their 20th anniversary. If you don’t know what Sonic is, I’ll give you a quick rundown. This map celebrates the anniversary of a special character Sonic and his animal friends. As a show, the plot goes him and his friends fighting off an evil inventor planning to destroy him with emeralds. It goes wrong no matter how many times he tries. Later on, too much stuff just gets added to explain here, but that’s just the gist of it. The focus here is the game created for that one character and this map is here to recreate it for us Minecraftiers to re-live the past in new glory.
If you haven’t played the games either, which you should, the basic gameplay of it is in 2D, moving along with the screen as you progress in the map. As you go in the map, different terrain puzzles connect and monsters are there to stop you in your tracks. As you play through the platform, you’ll see golden rings as your score, this is where it gets fun. In this Minecraft map, the rings have been recreated and put in there for you to enjoy, it’s not the game if there aren’t those good ‘ole rings to power Sonic. The map includes all the platform puzzles that you must be swift and careful to make it from one platform to the other. As you complete the courses and get further into the map, rings will appear in the chest for you to use as your score. The map even includes the crazy loops that you can’t really do much with, but it’s all there for looks and nostalgia.
As for the texture pack part of this package, the textures are very nice as the details are very accurate to make it look exactly like the game. The textures are there to fit every biome or level as you continue on completing each new course. These 8-bit textures give both games a very similar liking when it comes to looking a 2D game in 3D. When you mix elements from a platform game and a sandbox game, you get quite a bizarre survival element as the result of it. You may not experience the rush of Sonic as he rushes through the terrain, but more or less the adrenaline from the Minecraft survival elements and the view of the structures that resemble everything in a Sonic game. Sonic platform games tend to have gaps and gets your heart in a cliffhanger whether you’ll make it or not, in Minecraft, you’ll get that thought over and over. There are platforms and loops where they will or will not connect, these are your puzzles or parkour jumps that you will need to clear. Enjoy this little gem and see if you can make it to the end with as many golden rings as you can find.
