Old retro looking games have always fascinated me. Since I am a mid 90s kid, I couldn’t really fully experience this retro experience, and that’s why I regard it as retro instead of something like “my generation’s games”. Anyways, before I get off point, I would like to address the face that Minecraft, being a retro-styled game with 16-bit graphics, doesn’t really pay homage to really old games like The Legend of Zelda for the game boy.
That’s where theAntique Atlas Mod comes into the fray. TheAntique Atlas Mod is a mod that makes it so you can now craft a really old but cool looking atlas just by combining a book and compass together in the crafting table. What you get is a book that loads up a map of the surrounding area, but unlike the normal map, th book features a really old style of processing things, resembling that for an old game boy game.
What’s also cool about this atlas is that this atlas works off of a chunk-by-chunk basis like the normal Minecraft maps as well, but unlike the Minecraft maps, you can actually navigate around the atlas using your arrows keys or the WASD keys. This means that you can use this map to find your way in the case that you decide to travel really far away from home without having to carry several maps, which will ultimately slow you down if you plan to pick up materials and loot from distant villages.
In conclusion, theAntique Atlas Mod is a very nice mod and is recommended for anyone who would like to have a retro look in the game but would also like to add some functionality on that retro look as well.
